letter from the chair - November 2021
Dear Colleagues,
As the Delta COVID-19 surge wanes, we can breathe a bit easier while remaining vigilant. COVID-19 has now claimed 25,000 lives in Georgia and demanded so much of our frontline faculty, staff, and trainees. Particularly at this time, I am grateful for the incredible humanity of Emory Radiology’s people. Please continue to look out for each other and your own well being.
With vaccinations for children now approved and the first FDA approved COVID antiviral oral drug (Molnupiravir) arising from discovery work at Emory, there is reason for optimism.
This issue of Rad Report welcomes many new department members and highlights the intersectional identities, challenges, and humanity of others. As we expand across our missions, our Emory Radiology family grows. I’d like to give a shout out to our Dekalb Operating Unit (Emory Decatur Hospital and Emory Hillandale Hospital) colleagues who recently joined our professional faculty practice: Drs Chris Krebs, John Reid, Steve Storey, Jessi Yuen, and Kandra Vogt.
And, while our travel may still be somewhat limited, the tremendous impact of our work on the field nationally has remained strong. Congratulations to all who have received important recognitions for their contributions to the field, including a NASCI Gold Medal for Dr. Arthur Stillman, the SNMMI Presidential Distinguished Service for Dr. David Schuster, appointment of Dr. Marta Heilbrun as treasurer of the AUR, and Dr. Domnique Newall’s election as Chair of the SNMMI In-Training Committee.
Best,
Carolyn
