Honors for the education team
By Sam Marie Engle
Emory Radiology faculty and trainees aren’t the only ones raking in the honors. Led by Vice Chair for Education, Mark E. Mullins, the department’s training programs also have basked in the spotlight.
The Diagnostic Radiology Residency program, led by Chris Ho, associate professor, moved into the Doximity Residency Reputation Rankings Top Ten for the first time this year. Five years ago, the program ranked 14th; last year, it ranked 11th.
As previously reported, the department also landed in US News Education’s Top 20 Radiology Training Programs in March. Learn more about Emory's standing in the US News rankings here.
Completing the triple crown in late October, AuntMinnie.com announced Emory Radiology as the Minnies 2021 Best Radiologist Training Program, saying, “Emory is a powerhouse in medical imaging, winning Minnies awards in various categories since 2000. This year, though, is the first time the university has won the Minnies award for Best Radiology Training Program.” Read the full statement here.
Emory Radiology’s Medical Imaging Program, led by Ted Brzinski, MES, RT(R)(ARRT), was one of two finalists for the Minnies 2021 Best Radiologic Sciences Program.
These honors are due to the hard work of our teaching faculty, our program staff, and our learners. Congratulations to the outstanding Education Team!
Also scoring a big win was Dr. Judy Gichoya, assistant professor of radiology and imaging sciences, who was named Minnies 2021 Most Influential Radiology Researcher. The award announcement noted, "Gichoya is an advocate for what she calls "village mentoring" or "hive learning," in which people from multiple disparate disciplines are brought together to work on a problem. This can include researchers from different universities and even different continents." She herself mentors trainees and young faculty as head of the Healthcare Information and Translational Informatics Lab, which is part of Emory Radiology. Read the full announcement here.
Congratulations, Dr. Gichoya!
