Emory Radiology ranked in the top 20
By Sam Marie Engle
The Emory Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences once again has been ranked in the Top 20 of all radiology training programs in the United States, coming in at number 16. This ranking is the result of the hard work and innovation of the entire education team led by Vice Chair for Education Dr. Mark Mullins, who notes, "We provide outstanding training in four residency and 11 fellowship programs. This is a wonderful place to learn radiology. I'm glad to see others agree. Fingers crossed for #topten next year."
Emory Radiology is in good company in the School of Medicine, with the departments of Anesthesiology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Surgery also earning spots in the top 25 for their respective specialties. Emory Radiology also contributes to the School of Medicine's overall ranking of #22 among research-oriented medical schools.
"I’m proud that the US News rankings recognize our innovative radiology curriculum, which is customized to each resident’s needs," says Dr. Brent Weinberg, who directs our Radiology Resident Research Track. "Our Radiology Resident Research Track helps residents with an interest in academic careers supplement their outstanding clinical training with research skills including designing research projects, publishing abstracts and papers, and obtaining funding for their work. Our graduates are prepared to be leaders in radiology and to shape the next generation of patient care."
Perhaps no one knows better the value of training with Emory Radiology than our trainees themselves. Upon hearing this good news, Chief Resident Dr. Charlotte Chung responded, "I am thrilled that Emory Radiology continues to be recognized as one of the top training programs in the nation. Personally, Emory was the perfect place for my training - I have grown as a radiologist and developed skills outside of clinical radiology that are invaluable for my future career. As a soon-to-be graduate, I am proud to carry the name of Emory Radiology forward. As a chief resident, I recognize the opportunities for improvement and am confident in the continued commitment of our education leadership towards the program's betterment and growth."
