“Courage is grace under pressure.”
―Ernest Hemingway
Dear Colleagues,
This is a most unusual and challenging time. Just a few short months ago, none of us would have predicted that we would be in the midst of a global pandemic. In our “distanced” state, we have rallied in rapid response. Our front-line providers have developed creative approaches to safely caring for our patients when they need us most. Our educators have taught in new ways. Our researchers have continued to push science forward, some directing their efforts to research on diagnostics and tracking of the novel coronavirus that is our current foe. And our collective wisdom has helped us to innovate and swiftly react to the many and variable manifestations of COVID-19 infection.
At this point, we are seeing a flattening of the surge curve as social distancing demonstrates its positive effect. Your advocacy for us to be guided by best, scientific evidence has well served our community and saved lives. The next challenge we face is to carefully expand both the care we provide and our academic activities without triggering new COVID-19 outbreaks. This will require both careful planning and constant vigilance.
I recognize that juggling work and family when the way we conduct our daily lives has been dramatically disrupted is far from easy. Please take time to invest in your own wellness. We can do more later together if we each stay well and safe now.
There is much to look forward to. Ongoing construction of the HRSB-II building that will be home to an expanded Center for Systems Imaging, recruitment of a record-breaking number of talented new faculty, and planning for a new PACS system are just a sampling of investments that will enhance the future of Emory Radiology.
Colleagues, I applaud your courage, ability to adapt to an unprecedented situation, and most of all your capacity for compassion. Please continue to stay healthy, stay well, and look out for one another.
With gratitude,
Carolyn
