Match 2023 Yields Impressive, diverse class
By Sam Marie Engle
A record number of applicants yielded one of the most diverse and impressive match class ever. The results make the hard work pay off for the Education team.
"Every year I tell myself the radiology resident applicants can't get any more stellar and every year I'm proven wrong!" says Chris Ho, MD, director of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency.
Both the Diagnostic Radiology Residency and the Interventional Radiology-Integrated programs participated in Match.
Quote by Dr. Zach Bercu, interim director of the IR-I Residency program.
This match class includes a few familiar faces.
Joy Rosa Jackson, who is set to graduate from Morehouse School of Medicine in May, completed a fourth-year radiology elective with the department in August. She also was one of the first medical students to receive the Underrepresented in Medicine Visiting Medical Student Scholarship, which launched in 2022.
"The most exciting part for me was the opportunity to receive a faculty mentor and resident mentor. Having the guidance from Dr. Ho, Dr. Kelly and Dr. Tigges and multiple other faculty and residents as part of the scholarship was worth more to me than the money," Ms. Jackson says. "The encouragement and advice I received helped me navigate the application process and I will be forever grateful for this invaluable gift."
The department's celebration of the match results generated record response on social media. (story continues below the collages).
