Letter from the chair - February 2020
Dear Colleagues,
The past few months have been event-filled. The RSNA meeting brought much opportunity for celebration and connecting with colleagues and friends from around the world. At the Chicago meeting, Dr. Krupinski was honored with the highly deserved RSNA Outstanding Researcher Award and Dr. Duszak received the Distinguished Investigator Award from the Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research. Our faculty, staff, and trainees presented nearly 75 scholarly and educational talks and exhibits. The extraordinary Emory Radiology Quality Team was recognized for quality improvement excellence for their work in improving ED-CT patient flow.
December also brought the celebratory groundbreaking for the new Health Sciences Research Building II. We are busy planning for the phase II expansion of the Emory Center for Systems Imaging within this large and innovatively designed setting. During the groundbreaking ceremony, news came of a burst pipe at Grady. As we quickly found out, this was a catastrophic rupture that spread water to multiple floors, damaging patient areas, electrical systems, and the HVAC system. Thanks to so many, Grady colleagues acted quickly and resolutely to get the hospital on the path to repair and renovation.
Our EmPower journey continues to make great strides in bringing teams together to design and optimize our care delivery. It is truly extraordinary what has been accomplished to eliminate waste and permit our teams to communicate effectively across our large healthcare enterprise. It is with pride that I watch as leaders from other academic healthcare centers come to learn from our journey. This is hard work that will yield great benefit for both our people and our patients.
Best to all,
Carolyn
