The 6th Annual Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Retreat was held on April 22, 2022 at the Emory Musculoskeletal Institute. The theme: STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE.
Since the first retreat in 2015, the 21-member team has doubled in size. The COVID-19 pandemic nixed the meeting in 2020 and 2021, making the APPs even more excited about this gathering.
The APPs started the day with a question-and-answer session with Emory Radiology Interim Chair Dr. Amit Saindane and Bonnie Proulx, DNP, APRN, PNP-BC, corporate director of advanced practice providers for Emory Healthcare.
Tim Cunningham, RN, DrPH, FAAN, co-chief well-being officer for Woodruff Health Sciences Center, then discussed post-pandemic stress, burnout, grief, and post-traumatic growth. He reviewed coping strategies to heal and grow, which was very therapeutic for the team.

optimizing the team
In the afternoon, the APP team engaged in meaningful conversations with Emory Radiology Chief APP Tracy Powell, and lead APPs Stephanie Hawkins and Eric Peterson. The conversations covered the current state of APP practice within interventional radiology and what elements are needed to achieve excellence. Powell also reviewed the Five Characteristics of Highly Effective Teams: 1) Mission and Vision, 2) Caring and Communication, 3) Effective Leadership, 4) Trust, and 5) Diversity and Inclusion. She reminded the team excellence is unobtainable until a team is optimized.
The group ended the day with an unusual team building activity: axe throwing at Civil Axe in Atlanta. Everyone enjoyed it!
The APP team thanks Dr. Saindane for his leadership and continued support for the growth and development of Emory Radiology’s APP practice group.
