letter from the chair - February 2021
Dear Colleagues,
At this writing, I feel deep relief and gratitude that the country and our area are on the downslope following the third and most challenging COVID-19 surge. This period especially stressed our health care resources and our most treasured asset – our people. I am also grateful for the rollout of two highly effective vaccines within a year, which is a tribute to the power of science. Our own institution has contributed to both the foundational research that made mRNA-based vaccines possible and the scientific and public health leadership in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. I so look forward to seeing the wondrous faces of my colleagues again . . . and not only on Zoom.
Despite the personal and professional challenges of the past nearly 12 months, Emory Radiology has innovated, educated, and provided outstanding patient care. In this timeframe, our Division of Pediatric Radiology has grown quickly to incorporate a third hospital, new colleagues, and subspecialized imaging care. And just over the past month, we installed a combined MR-PET scanner that will support state-of-the-art diagnostic work and discovery. As the Health Sciences Research Building-2 continues to rise out of the ground, we foresee a new home for the Emory Center for Systems Imaging that includes our first 7-Tesla human scanner. Our Quality team’s bold strategic goals are rolling out over the coming months. And our Emory Radiology family grows further to welcome new clinical faculty at the Dekalb Operating Unit in July.
As always, I am honored to work with and serve the people of Emory Radiology. Thank you for all you do, and please stay safe and well.
Best,
Carolyn
